Once the games ended the students paraded around the hall show casing their elaborate costumes before the court.
Music preceded the feast with Michelle Fegas performing “Ode to Joy” solo on the recorder. A group of fourth, fifth and sixth graders played “Dona Nobis Pacem” on their recorders.
Preparation of the feast began at 10 a.nft. that day when 60 pounds of beef went on the spit over an open pit fire in the school yard. The meat was cooked for hours, just as it would have been in medieval times.
The rest of the food was just as authentic. Only food found in Europe before the discovery of America was served. This included bread, fruits, cheeses, vegetables and deviled eggs.
The mechanics of eating were just as primitive. Food was served on trenchers — flat wboden boards which took the place of plates.
