For example, the RCHS principal, who has 28 years’ worth of experience, is now being paid at the 13-year level. The proposed budget plan would move each of the six administrative employees partway up the schedule in 1998 and 1999. All will be caught up by the year 2000. The total cost for this adjustment, without benefits added, is $16,574.
Bill Dietel of Headwaters objected to the proposed plan as insufficient. “I’m an ardent proponent of public education,” he began. “You speak of‘excellence,’ but the budget increases are actually striving for ‘average.’ It strikes me that the job of the school board is to provide the best possible education for children. I’m concerned that there be merit increases, not just across-the-board increases.”
