School board member Bryant Lee commented that “the overhead has gotten astronomical. A lot of classes are being riffed due to lack of participation. Law enforcement is being cut. The sheriff showed interest in there being a class in the county.” Lee suggested a possible “community apprenticeship program” where businesses in the area would be certified to provide student training in the trades arena. Gangel pointed out, that based on follow up statistics, “we don’t have a high percentage of students going out into the professions after graduation.”
“The whole complexion of vocational education is changing,” observed board member Rosa Crocker. A final decision was postponed pending further discussion. Copies of Gangel’s letter are available from the school board office.
