In the midst of dinner, a knight charged into the hall shouting accusations of treason against a knight at the king’s table. A sword fight ensued and the treasonous villain lay broken on the floor (though minutes later he was observed gorging at the banquet table...).
The sword fight was staged by members of the ninth grade medieval history class. Seventh graders take a British history class.
Pamela Lynn-Tucker teaches both classes and initiated the annual banquet 16years-ago. She thought the banquet would be a good way for her students to get a taste of what life was like in medieval times.
The main objective of studying British and medieval history is to understand the beginnings of the British parliament and legal system. The American legal system directly evolved from British law and an understanding of the beginnings of law is a necessary foundation for later studies. Lynn-Tucker hopes she is able to instill in her students “a sense of perspective.”
