be a drawback. For instance, I can’t tip you off to the best price on a bag of mulch — I’ve never bought a bag. My mulch shows up in my driveway, wholly against my wife’s wishes, by the truckload.
She eventually forgives me, but she’s not happy. Last week three trucks full of horse manure dumped their precious cargo on the east side of our house. In the cool mornings, it resembles a trio of volcanoes, smoke rising in a pre-eruptive plume from all that good stuff going on deep inside ... Mount Vesuvius of Virginia.
She hates it, but she’ll get over it. It was free, and I believe in free stuff. Every contractor in Fauquier knows that he can dump anything in my yard if it’s free.
If you don’t believe me, check out the dirt from the cemetery down by my mum garden. When the mayor’s wife knows you well enough to tell the cemetery guys they can dump stuff in your yard, you’ve gotten yourself a reputation.
So 100 Culpeper Street has become a fairly busy place for truck drivers who have to get rid of dirt, sludge, cow poop, raw mulch or whatever.
