Like a lot of new gardeners, I got a little carried away with my project.

I misted the little plants every day, moved the trays around to catch the sunlight from different windows as the day progressed, and was gratified to see them get bigger and bigger. I could envision row upon row of lovely flowers brightening our property throughout the spring and summer. Then one morning, tragedy struck.

As I recall, it was a Saturday morning, and I arose at my usual time — about 7:30 a.m. When I went downstairs to see my mini Garden of Eden, I was aghast to see several of the plants stricken and fallen over. I thought that the plants were lacking moisture, so I poured it on. I thought that it might revive the fallen ones and regenerate the ones still standing, but things went from bad to worse.

The next day more were dead, and it was simply a matter of time before they all collapsed. I didn’t know why then, but I have become enlightened since.

This year when I ordered a massive number of seeds, plants and planting helpers from a company, my order totaled over $100, and they sent me a
