A trip to the hardware store for the pipe and a couple of hours in the garage, and now I have a 4-foot long, two-tiered, four-fluorescent bulb light cart in my home office. The lights are on 14 hours a day, which lends a cheery atmosphere to some of the drab days we have had this winter.
I counted the weeks back from our last spring frost date, which I’m taking as April 18 this year, and planted the first two trays. Yesterday was the day to take on the impatiens.
The seed packages say that they should be started indoors from 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. I waited until now so that I can be certain that they won’t face frost when I transplant the seedlings into the garden.
I’m looking towards a May 1 transplant date, just to be sure. Money is riding on this, after all.
