Turkey shoot The Castleton Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a turkey shoot on Nov. 2 starting at noon. Turkeys, hams, side meat and cash prizes will be given away. Art exhibit An exhibit of Robin Purnell’s paintings and drawings will open at Middle St. Gallery in Washington with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 3. The show will continue through Nov. 30. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. ‘Star Man’ “Star Man,” starring Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges, will be shown on Nov. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gay St. Theatre. Bridges stars as ah alien who responds to the Voyager II invitation to visit earth. When he crash lands in the Mid West, he clones himself as the dead husband of a young woman, and the two begin a romantic odyssey across the U.S. to rejoin his mother ship. The film is rated PG.
Youth rally Randy Brigman, an 18-year-old singer/evangelist from Kerrville, Texas, will present a youth rally/concert at Rappahannock County Elementary School on Nov. 9 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Leasing workshop A leasing workshop will be held at the Rappahannock Courthouse in Washington at 7:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 13. For more information and to pre-register, call the Extension office at 675-3619.
Banjo performance Cathy Fink, three-time West Virginia state bapjo champion, will perform old American music on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gay St. Theatre. She also plays the fiddle, guitar, dulcimer and button accordian. A regular performer at the Smithsonian Institution’s Hall of Musical Instruments and with the group Magpie, she has made four records. The cost of admission will be $6 for adults, $5 for RAAC members and $4 for students.
Historical Society meeting The third quarterly meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held in the Historical Society building on Gay Street in Washington on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Anniversary banquet Mary Magdalene Chapter #208 of the Eastern Star in Front Royal will celebrate its 34th anniversary on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Quality Inn in Front Royal. Margaret Coleman, of Arlington, will be guest speaker and donations are $14.
