Donna Lynn Bales and Charles Gilbert Lawrence, III were united in marriage on Sept. 21, 1985 at the Marion Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gayle Bales, of Marion. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Vernon Stover, of Marion, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Clinton Bales, of Atkins.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gilbert Lawrence, Jr., of Amissville. He is the grandson of Dollie Milboume, of Culpeper, the late Aubrey William Settle and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gilbert Lawrence, Sr.
Reverend James Pickens officiated the double-ring ceremony. William Schermer was the organist and Xavier Jackson, of Charlottesville, a friend of the bride, was the soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, wore a formal white satin wedding gown with a cathedral train. It featured a fitted bodice of silk schifflett embroidery and simulated pearls. The gown had long straight sleeves with a satin shoulder pouf.
The full skirt fell from a basque waist. The entire skirt was accented with silk schifflett embroidery and the hem had a scalloped edge. Her matching headpiece was a traditional cap of Alencon lace, pear’s and irridescents. The veil featured a double illusion bordered with seed pearls. She carried a cascade of silk white roses and baby’s breath.
Miss Robin Bales, of Marion, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Patricia Bales, of Roanoke, cousin of the bride; Miss Andrea Hedley, of Centreville, friend of the bride; Miss Jodi Jones, of Marion, friend of the bride; and Miss Lisa Priest, of Amissville, cousin of the groom. Armor Specialist and Mrs. Charles Mark Werner, of El Paso, Texas, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Joshua Ryan, bom Oct. 15, 1985 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. Joshua weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs. and was 20 3/8” in length.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Grady Vest, of Flint Hill, Mrs. Sally Vlasic, of Corona, Calif., and Bud Werner, of Muscatine, Iowa.
