The Baliles focus on education is not new. His service in the General Assembly was marked by a strong record of support for both secondary and higher education. “The cornerstone of education will be quality, professional instruction. Our teachers must be recognized for the professionals they are. Salaries must be commensurate with their devotion to the job and must recognize the responsibility our educators undertake," explained Baliles.
“In the New Dominion I will commit the resources of the Commonwealth to raising teacher salaries to the national average. Once this is accomplished we will strive to achieve a higher ranking.
“Professionalism will also be recognized by developing career ladder systems and the opportunity for teacher improvement through longer term contracts,” stressed Baliles. ’ He also stated, "The Commonwealth must continue to recognize the benefits of a balanced relationship between our statesupported institutions of higher education and the many fine private institutions located in this state."
Continuing his support for community colleges, Baliles explained, "Community colleges have expanded to fill an important role in the education strategies of this Commonwealth. The community college system is a tremendous success story.
