JAMESTOWN — An anonymous group of people is considering reconstructing part of Colonial Jamestown and building tourist facilities, including a national chain motel, nearby.
The project would include the reconstruction of 60 buildings of the Jamestown community of 1670, said Alexander C. Graham Jr., a Richmond lawyer representing a group of unidentified members of the JamestownYorktown Foundation Inc.
Mr. Graham said the plans are to reconstruct Jamestown, if possible, on its original site. If that location is not available, then the project would be built nearby.
The first public indication of the venture came last week at the James City County Board of Supervisors meeting, when Mr. Graham asked the county to apply for a $700,000 federal block grant to pay for constructing brick and lime kilns in the project.
Mr. Graham asked at the board’s meeting Oct. 21 that a public hearing be held Oct. 31 so the supervisors could consider the grant application.
