Baliles Urges

Planning

Gerald Baliles has called for the creation of a new Secretary of Economic Development to develop and execute a comprehensive plan for growth. In his tour of the Northern Piedmont, Gerald Baliles supported Governor Robb's development of the Center for Innovative "Technology. He further indicated support for the creation of a Foreign Trade Zone at Dulles Airport. This would expand economic opportunities for the Northern Piedmont of Virginia.

A major focus of industrial growth in Virginia has been its right-to-work law. He indicated continuing support for the Virginia right-to-work tradition. He also voiced support for minority and businesses and urged that we increase the efforts for worker retraining through the private industry councils.

Specifically, he looked at the expansion of existing businesses. He pointed to the proposed expansion for American Press in Gordonsville and to the expansion of new industries in Spotsylvania and Hanover counties. “The state ought to be supportive and helpful.’’
