Court House, Louisa, Mineral and Ashland, Jeannie Baliles found the need to be very flexible. She coped with a hectic schedule which kept her on the road from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for two days. In Orange she noted, “If you can keep a sense of humor, things will work out.” Gerald Baliles has committed himself to quality education in Virginia. His wife’s background as a public school teacher and the fact that they have two children, Laura, 16, and Jonathan, 14, further encourages this public education attention. Ties to 7th Jeannie Baliles enjoyed her trips through the 7th because her family has substantial ties to the area. Jerry and Jeannie Baliles moved to Charlottesville when Jeannie got her job at Lane High School and later was a sixth and seventh grade teacher at Walker Middle School. Education A principal focus of the Baliles’ campaign has been on quality education. Jeannie Baliles emphasized her husband’s commitment to the community college system and to secondary education. She indicated that frequently most people think of the fouryear colleges as the major beneficiaries of state funding. A major focus of a Baliles governorship will be on strengthening the accessibility of education. Ashland At a reception for over 100 people in Ashland, she stressed the opportunities which had been provided to her and responded to the close kinship which she felt with individuals in the 7th Congressional District. She said, "Having lived in Piedmont Virginia, it’s nice to be able to feel like you’re ‘going home’ when you’re travelling through the Central Piedmont of Virginia.” Valley Swing At a dinner in Page County in a swing up the valley, Jeannie Baliles focused on her local contacts and on her commitment to public education. At a dinner attended by one of the largest crowds in Page County, Jeannie Baliles stressed her commitment to the people in this area of Virginia.
RUS Tour While in Culpeper campaigning she had the opportunity to have a tour of Rental Uniform Services’ plant, and she enjoyed the opportunity of talking and meeting with a number of individuals during their break.
While in Fredericksburg she toured the downtown Historic District. Before arriving in Fredericksburg she spent some time touring the Germanna Community College campus.
