Transportation is an issue which Gerald Baliles has recognized as a major need in Virginia. In visits to Fredericksburg and Manassas, he stressed his commitment to help with the development of a daily commuter rail service originating in Fredericksburg and terminating in Northern Virginia. Baliles recently told a citizens group that it will take a variety of transportation improvements “to meet the needs of a state as large as Virginia, including extensive work on bridges and highways.” He further emphasized that commuter rail can play a major role in helping relieve the congestion.
He noted that there are a number of people who travel from localities such as Lake of the Woods and Fredericksburg northward. It would help eliminate long rush hours. The commuter rail service could be expanded as the region grows.
