As the campaign closes, Democrat Gerald L. Baides has a 9-point lead over Republican Wyatt B. Durrette in the race for governor, according to a new statewide poll.
While Mr. Baides appears to be the gubernatorial favorite in Tuesday's election, the poll indicated the races for lieutenant governor and attorney general are too close to call.
Forty-eight percent of the 826 poll respondents picked Mr. Babies, compared to 39 percent for Mr. Durrette, with 13 percent undecided.
In the race for beutenant governor, the poll gave Democrat L. Douglas Wdder 41 percent to 40 percent for Repubkcan John H. Chichester, with 19 percent undecided.
Democrat Mary Sue Terry was picked by 42 percent of the respondents, compared to 39 percent for Repubbcan W.R. “Buster” O’Brien in the race for attorney general; IS percent were undecided.
