One representative from each party is allowed to witness the pre-election inspection of the voting machines or ballot boxes. As many as two representatives from each party and one from each independent candidate are permitted to witness the vote counting after the polls are closed.
After all the ballots have been counted and the results determined, the total votes cast for each candidate are entered on a Statement of Results and signed by all the officers of election. By noon of the second day following the election, the local electoral meets to verify the results. The State Board of Elections then meets the fourth Monday in November and officially certifies the results.
If an election ends in a tie, the winner is determined by lot.
