The Virginia DMV warns against street sign vandalism on Halloween. Missing or damaged street signs cost Virginians thousands of dollars in addition to accident losses, injuries and fatalities, according to the Virginia Department of State Police.
Motorists are advised to drive more alertly and to look for signs, trash, pumpkins or other objects thrown into streets. Car headlights should be turned on as soon as natural light fades.
Besides bright colors and reflectors, the DMV recommends that trick-or-treaters carry flashlights to increase their visibility.
