Avery impressive dedication
ceremony was held at Rappahannock County High School, a day set aside all over the nation to present flags made by Home Demonstration and 4H clubs to their high schools.
A special brand of rabbit’s foot or four-leaf clover was riding with Braxton James at Amissville when his tractor got out of control and crashed into a gas tank at Palmer’s Store.
Thinking that the tractor was about to overturn, James jumped off and escaped injury. The tractor then crashed into Mr. Palmer’s car and careened into one of the gas pumps and knocked it over against a brick post.
Luckily, no fire started.
Bill Elliot in “Showdown” was the feature presentation at the grand opening of the Pitts Drive-in Theatre near Culpeper.
Rev. T.L. Proctor, pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint Hill, conducted services Sunday at Mt. Carrow Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. A bus and four cars accompanied the Rev. Proctor.
25 YEARS AGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS From the Nov. 3, 1960 edition
Rena Mae Pullen of Washington
won the Cherry Pie Contest held at Clarke County High School and will represent Virginia at the national contest in Chicago.
Pullen, 19 and a senior at Rappahannock County High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pullen.
Should Miss Pullen win in Chicago, she and her homemaker teacher, Mrs. Glenna Bannett, would go on an educational sight-seeing trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City.
The Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Judging Team won first place at Hillcrest Farms “Roundup Days” in Delaplane.
Francis Updike, Glen Updike and Harrison Powers are members of the team that won the $21 first place award.

Mills Godwin, Democratic
candidate for governor, swept the ballots at Rappahannock County Tuesday, getting 355 votes to Republican’s Linwood Holton’s 173.
Every district in the county cast a majority vote for Godwin, except Hawthorne District, which went for Holton, 22-19.
