Horses may “run for the roses,” but people run for more important rewards. Rewards that include the promise of a Thanksgiving turkey or the knowledge that the run benefits an organization like the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department.
Fifty-five people registered to run and 50 ran in the Third Annual Turkey Ridge Run sponsored by the fire department on Saturday. Eight people also entered the first Turkey Ridge Bike Race held before the run.
Philip Strange, coordinator of the annual event, said $500 was raised this year, and the money will be used to help the department build an addition to the fire hall.
