Marley Hay earned a medal for his 10-place finish in the Bull Run District cross country meet Oct. 23 as the Rappahannock boys finished fourth in the seven-team field.
Rappahannock County girls’ cross country runners, meanwhile, placed sixth and were led by Bonnie Grimsley who finished 11th.
Strasburg won the girls’ division with 31 points and Stonewall was second with 40. The schools placed the top six runners and eight of the top 10. Clarke County, which occupied the remaining two slots, finished third with 65, Brentsville fourth with 114, Rappahannock fifth with 118 and Page County sixth with 148 points. George Mason fielded just one girl runner.
While Stonewall (28 points) won the boys’ meet, taking the top two positions, Strasburg was second with 43 points, George Mason third with 91 points, Rappahannock fourth with 109, Brentsville fifth with 116, Clarke County sixth with 144 and Page County seventh with 201 points. Marley Hay ran the hilly, 3.1-mile Strasburg course in 19:07 for 10th place, about 90 seconds behind tne winner.
Also for Rappahannock, Jonathan Watson was 14th in 19:28, Neil Burke 24th in 20:31, John Dodson 28th in 21:13 and Tony Clark 33rd in 21:32.
Bonnie Grimsley led the local girls’ effort, placing 11th in 24:40, almost two minutes behind the leader. Karen Ludwick was 15th in 25:12, Kathy Dodson 24th in 26:12, Denise Eidson 33rd in 29:20 and Heather Blevins 35th in 30:21.
The Panthers were to run in the Region B meet scheduled for Oct. 30 at Piedmont Community College in Charlottesville. The Group A meet is set for Nov. 6, also at Piedmont.
