Gerald Baliles has pledged to continue his battle against crime as Governor. Having successfully enacted the Robb anti-crime proposal, he called for continuing the strengthening of Virginia’s law enforcement tools. He urged a crackdown on drug trafficking and called for the centralizing of a drug information clearinghouse. Fighting Drugs

“I worked successfully for stiffer penalties against drug users and dealers while Attorney General. I will continue the fight as Governor by pressing for new and tougher punishments,” announced Baliles.

Baliles said that a major problem is to insure that swifter and more certain conviction occurs of wrongdoers. He pointed to problems in the past and indicated thaft tougher sentences would be a solution.
