Two young authors, turned on to history by their explorations of graveyards in Northern Virginia, have published thenfirst book as a result of those explorations.
Peter Exton, whose parents are Lt. Gen. (Ret.) and Mrs, Hugh Exton of Amissville, is a former book salesman for Simon and Schuster.
But he and University of New Hampshire English teacher Dorsey Kleitz, have teamed to publish “Milestones into Headstones,” a collection of short biographies of 50 famous Americans buried in Washington, D.C.
As students, the authors planned to write a guide to famous-name gravesites until they realized it was the lives of the people that made the gravesites worth visiting.
Biographies include thosfe of Joe Louis, George Washington, Mathew Brady, Abner Doubleday, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., as well as those people who made significant contributions to history but whose names are not particularly well-known.
