Few candidates for lieutenant governor have run a more tenacious campaign for the office {han Republican state Sen. John Chichester.
His Democratic rival, state Sen. L. Douglas Wilder of Richmond, has called the Stafford County senator’s style “mudslinging.”
“I’m not mudslinging,” Chichester said in an interview following the first and only lieutenant gubernatorial debate last month. “I’m talking about his record. ”
Early polls indicated Chichester was the heavy favorite to take the race. But polls indicate the candidates have been running neck and neck since September.
