the state’s governing body. The members are appointed for a four-year term and, by law, a majority of the board members must be from the political party which cast the highest number of votes in the last preceding gubernatorial election.
Each county or city has an Electoral Board which carries out the directives from the State Board of Elections. Local Electoral Boards are composed of three members, one appointed each year by the Circuit Court for a three-year term. The members represent each of the two political parties whose candidates received the highest and next highest number of votes at the gubernatorial election immediately preceding their * appointment.
