Vest was referring to the Supreme Court decision this summer that the Jaycees could no longer keep their male and female organizations separated. “The organizations don’t have to combine, but now they can if they want to,” Vest said.
Vest is excited about her new office, and about what the new Jaycee chapter in Rappahannock can accomplish. “I’m really proud of the organization,” said Vest. “I think that we’ve got a good group of people, and that we'll get a lot done.”
The September 13 meeting was the Rappahannock Jaycees’ second meeting since the local chapter formed in August. The group is planning to sell apples and hold a raffle in the near future. There are also plans for a haunted house or Halloween party, and for a Christmas-toy workshop to collect toys and distribute them to needy children.
The chapter has 23 members and is conducting a membership drive. “We need to get more people,” Vest said.
