The Medal of Honor is the highest honor that the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) can give to an individual. On Sunday, September 16, the Culpeper Minute Mai Chapter of the DAR surprised William Carrigan by bestowing the honor on him.

About 35 people watched as Mr. Carrigan received the award at the Rappahannock County Library. It was a fitting place to hold the ceremony since Mr. Carrigan was instrumental in organizing and establishing the library.

Besides his work for the library, Mr. Carrigan is widely known for his Fourth of July celebrations. For 28 years, the people of Rappahannock have been invited to celebrate
