Sneakers, the old flat-soled canvas shoes, used to be only sold in white. Today, they come in a full spectrum of fashion colors and basically are just for casual wear. These old favorites have long since been “outrun” by other shoes designed for specific sports. They are thin-soled and are not cushioned or built supportive enough for serious sports.

Running shoes are just that-for running only. Built for forward movement, these shoes have an elevated heel to absorb the hardest part of the shock and the front end curves to protect the toes. The only lateral support provided is the wide sole base. Rubber soles, usually waffled or ridged provide solid footing and good traction on dirt and hills.

Athletic shoes should not be machine washed or dried but handwashed and dried away from the heat. If worn at least three times a week, they’ll probably need replacing in four to six months.

Remember to always wear socks to guard against blisters, duffing, and calluses. Tne best socks for athletic wear are those with a blend of 'dbiton and synthetic fibers. The cotton absorbs wetness and the synthetic adds stain resistance and durability.

The best way to protect the feet is with careful shoe selection and timely replacement. Pick the right shoes for the correct needs and wear them properly fastened with comfortable socks.
