The Morven Park course was designed by Arthur McCaahin, a founding member of the races and one of the foremost steeplechase course designers in the country. A near design by Mr. McCaahin, a breakaway jump standard designed not to injure the hone, will be used for the first time in this country at the Morven Park meet.

Great Meadow Races
The Great Meadow meet Saturday, Oct. 20, promises to be an exciting and Hglcome newcomer to the traditional Virginia fall steeplechase circuit.
The new course near The Plains will host six sanctioned races with a total of (44,000 in purses. The first race will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The feature race at Great Meadow will be the $15,000 International Gold Cup, a 3V4-miie open timber race. It will be the richest purse ever offered at a hunt meet.
The International Gold Cup was originally a brush stakes race when it was run at the now disbanded Rolling Rock Hunt races in Ligonier, Pa. Virginia Gov. Charles S. Robb will present the spectacular trophy.
Other races on the card include a (5,000 maiden brush at two miles, a (7,000 novice timber race at three miles, a (6,000 novice brush at two miles, a (10,000 open brush at 2Vi miles and a (1,000 amateur flat race at two miles.
Great Meadow was established three years ago by Arthur W. Arundel, president of the Meadow Outdoor Foundation which manages the facility. Its purpose is two-fold, according to Mr. Arundel. It will serve as a new center for large field sports which cannot be accommodated by such Washington area facilities as RFK Stadium or the Capital Centre and it will provide a .new permanent home for the
