The proposed ordinance is not a revision of the *73 Ordinance. People thought they were getting a revision. Even the Rappahannock News articles last year and earlier this year said that.
What we got instead is a revised Fauquier ordinance. From what people have told me, they didn’t get involved because they were told this is a revision of the ’73 Ordinance.
• The proposed ordinance is too restrictive. I was told by an attorney in Warrenton the Fauquier zoning ordinance is the most restrictive in the state for an area with mixed agricultural, residential and industrial. Why does Rappahnnock need the most restrictive ordinance in the state?
• The proposed ordinance is too complex. After the proposed zoning ordinance is adopted, an individual will have to have a lawyer at his side to defend himself due to the complexity of the proposed document. The average citizen could not understand it or challenge rulings.
• I believe people want the proposed ordinance tabled. Nearly 506 people from all five districts have signed a petition calling for the Planning Commission and the supervisors to table the pro, posed zoning ordinance. They have not tabled it yet, even though at the August 15 hearing only two people spoke for it.
As I see it, they’re continuing to spend time and effort on the ’84 Ordinance, which is commendable, but 1 feel their time could better be applied to our current ’73 Ordinance.
