clockwise. The reason for this is to ensure an uphill finish, a desirable characteristic at all steeplechase courses to sort the real runners from the lucky ones.
This year the Fairfax races begin at 2 p.m. with two non-sanctioned fiat races, one for ladies and one for gentlemen, both over 1% miles. Other races on the card include the featured $5,000 Bowman Bowl at 3miles over timber, and the 2 Vi mile $3,000 Guest Cup hurdle race.
A substitute three-mile timber race may be on the card, or else there will be two hurdle races, one for maidens, of 2V« miles. The final decision on which races will be held depends on the number and type of entries that are received by the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association (NSHA), the governing body of steeplechasing in this country.
