NSHA president William L. Pape, in a letter to the senior membership dated Aug. 11, reported Montpelier officials issued the following statement:
“It is the expressed hope of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that the 50th anniversary of steeplechase running at Montpelier will be observed on November 3 aa presently scheduled. The racing community is encouraged to believe that every effort is being made to assure the running of the Noel Laing. ”
However, Racing Secretary William Gallo Jr. said Sept. 12 from his office at Belmont Park, **1 wma asked not to include the conditions for the Montpelier races in the fall condition book. Its renewal this fall remains uncertain at this time.”
