With Virginia’s hilly terrain, tractor roll-overs are a serious hazard. Hetzel noted that nationally 48 percent of tractor fatalities occur when the tractor turned over. Such deaths are avoidable.
‘'There are no recorded fatalities from roll-overs when the tractor is equipped with a roll-bar or cab and the operator was wearing a seatbelt,” Hetzel said.
Other farm accidents can be prevented, too. Over five percent of farm injuries are to the eyes. Wearing goggles could prevent many of them.
