Formerly owned by Peter Brandt and trained by Frank Whiteley, the Buckpasser gelding broke down in the 1981 version of the Midsummer handicap at Monmouth. Turned over to Andrea King, Romeo Lima was conditioned at Delaware Park’s training center, and pulled off a spectacular performance with Billy Martin sitting quietly in the saddle as the pair winged it along by as much as 30 to 40 lengths in front of the other nine horses at one point in the race.
