Fair Hill at 50. A half century of racing in the lovely northeast Maryland track opened the fall schedule on Labor Day, Sept. 3. Attendance was placed at 12,005, but only $128,719 was wagered throughout the afternoon.
“We have lost our big bettors to Delaware Park,” Race Director Steve Groat confirmed at the end of the day.
Nevertheless, the racing was good and the weather held clear and sunny until the end of the afternoon, when brief showers began to fall prior to the eighth race.
Jerry Fishback rode Eremite to win the Adaptable ’chase named after the best horse Morris H. Dixon felt he had trained during his long years as a conditioner.
