$3,000 maiden and a $8,600 non-winners of two, both at 2tt miles, a $2,600 claimer at two miles and a $4,000 allowance timber race of 3Vi miles. A substitute flat race will be offered if insufficient entries are recieved for any of the other races.
After the races, the Museum of Faxhunting in the Westmoreland Davis mansion will be formally opened. The day after the races the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center will be dedicated and the new student union at the Morven Park International Equestrian Institute will be opened.
Although modern-day steeplechasing has taken {dace at Morven Park only the last four years, the site was used for flat racing more than 100 years ago.
“There are written records that the Jockey Chib of Leesburg sponsored races at, or near, Morven Park in 1811,” said Dr. Joseph Rogers, MFH of the Loudoun Hunt and chairman of the Morven Park races. “There are not too many obvious sites to have horse racing here and it seems that it would fit in weD with the present site. It might have been a little closer to the roed, however.”
The current races were a childhood dream of Dr. Rogers that he, and other members of the Loudoun Hunt, suggested to the William Davis Foundation, trustees of Morven Park.
