tured and tested as fungicides and a number of these are very effective for certain purposes.

What is poison for one fungus may be food for another. A compound that serves as an effective fungicide under one set of conditions may be useless under another. The effectiveness of the compound is influenced by a large number of factors.

Some of these influences include:

—Certain volatile chemicals, such as pardichlorobenzene, inhibit mildew on clothing and other apparel when used in packages, trunks or garment bags. Use one pound of the crystals for 100 cubic inches of air space.

—To protect leather, treat with low-pressure aerosol formulations. Check for color changes in leather before treating.

—When painting wood surfaces that come in contact with moisture use a paint that contains mildeweide or fungicide.

—Basement walls and showers can be wiped with a solution of household bleach prepared as one part bleach and nine parts water.
