Double Sparkle (Teter) returned to win the timber ’chase in a hard-fought battle with Ashling’s Dream in the quartermile run on the flat. Old Question was far back in third.
Dick McWade and Portmeirion were declared winners of the maiden ’chase after Teter and Timothy ’N Rye were disqualified and placed second. Ricky Hendriks and Mark Stickley were both injured when the Smithwick entry of Tucks Luck and Ahwaz fell during the competition.
Mrs. Samuel E. Bogley*s Sampson Hall (Bemie Houghton) won the maiden special weight ’chase over Family Project and Cottonpicker, and Jerry Fishback got Mrs. Ogden Phipps’ Rockaround around in front of the field of seven to take the allowance chase over Hill Talk and A. Laguerre.
Coconut Creek provided Dick McWade with his second win of the day in the claiming ’chase. McAdam, making his first start since last November, was second, Uncle Edwin third.
Augustin Stables’ Fidelity won the maiden turf contest and Arthur 0. Choate’s Locust Grove the allowance turf.
The second and final day of racing at Fair Hill during its 50th anniversary celebration was held Saturday, Sept. 15.
