Jonas Alther

Jonas Alther, 80, of Sperryville, died on Sunday, September 16 at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at Geest-Johnson Funeral Hone in Culpeper by the Rev. John K. Burke, Jr. Burial was in Washington Masonic Cemetery.

Son of the late Jake and Mary Blanche Bruce Alther, he was a native of Rappahannock County and a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Jenkins Alther, two sons, Jonas Alther, Jr. of Washington and George William Alther of Culpeper; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Brown of Woodville, Mrs. Rebecca Menefee of Sperryville and Mrs. Annie Belle Jeffries of Gainesville; 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Pullen of Sperryville and Miss Ollie Alther of Washington, D.C. and a brother, George Alther of Sperryville.
