The days should be gone when education is left entirely up to the schools, when encouragement of youth is entrusted solely to the teachers, the coaches, the administrators.
Monetary commitments to the school system already have been made by parents and county officials. School funding in Rappahannock leaped to new levels for fiscal ’84-’85. Shouldn’t other types of commitment and involvement jump threefold, too?
It’s a safe bet to say parents who attended Back-toSchool night were glad they did and would do so again in the future. A Rappahannock News survey conducted as informally as the gathering noted smiles on nearly all the parents’ faces.
Rappahannock Schools will provide more opportunity for parental involvement; the question is will parents get involved? Booster meetings to support the “total school program” are scheduled at the high school September 26; PTA meetings also will begin again soon.
Many are hoping that parents will go to school again, this time to let somebody who looks up to them know Mom and Dad really do care.
