(Ms. Slaughter, for her part, resists the ultra-liberal label, claiming fiscal prudence during her time on Charlottesville’s City Council. She is pro-choice and a staunch environmentalist, however, positions often associated with the liberal arm of the Democratic Party.)
Del. Allen said Ms. Slaughter “looks for tax increases instead of spending restrictions” and pushed for a local income tax for Charlottesville, which he said went nowhere politically.
“She seems to be for this national health insurance plan that is estimated to cost $250 billion,” said Del. Allen. He issued a position paper on health care this week that, among other things, called for “incentives for small employers, including the self-employed, to form groups to purchase health insurance.”
