Fout has not limited himself to shopping only in France. His first top runner hailed from different shores altogether.
“Don Panta (Chile), a horse my dad [Paul Fout] trained for Peggy Steinman, was my first big horse. But another good runner we had was a French-bred Bel Iman,” Fout explained.
“The two were completely different types of horses. Don Panta was big and tough, a strapping front runner. Bel Iman was smaller, easy to place, and a real tryer with a huge heart.
“That is the only similarity • between the two — they were both excellent jumpers and they both were honest runners.”
The foreign influx prqjjuces more than just competitive racing for horses; it also provides top class entertainment for the large crowds of ’chasing fans found at hunt meets spring and fall.
