Susan Snyder Cooney and Patrick Cooney are firmly rooted in Fauquier County, integral parts of Virginia racing and each others’ lives.
Susan (nee Snyder) became Susan Cooney June 10, 1989, signing on as both a jockey’s wife and a professional horsewoman.
Susan is the trainer-in- • residence at Rockbum Stud, George Ohrstrom’s training center and foaling station on Zulla Road between Marshall and Middleburg. Patrick is contracted as steeplechase owner Beverly Steinman’s No. 1 rider, working almost exclusively for her trainer, Paul Fout, in The Plains and at the Middleburg Training Center.
