impact fees

To the Editor:

The text of your reporter’s story on my convention was thorough and accurate. It is unfortunate that the headline writer failed to understand the context of my statement on the local economic situation and the accompanying remark on impact fees.

My position on impact fees is this: I agree with the concept of impact fees as a method of mitigating the effects of development upon the community, provided that the fees are proportioned to the impact on costs for additional facilities and services, and provided that the benefits of these additional facilities and services are distributed proportionally to the development and the community at large.

The subject of impact fees and other types of development transfers is extremely important, and I intend to make sure that it gets plenty of attention between now and election day.
