He expects the budget to be the major issue in the General Assembly in the coming session. He said he feels Virginia is in better shape than many other states, but he does not see any immediate improvement. Mr. Wood said in the Fauquier Pharmacy he has been through several recessions, but none has been as deep as the current one. He has no suggestions for cuts in the state budget. He noted that education, health, safety, and transportation take up 86 cents of every dollar in state funds, leaving little room for cuts.
While Mr. Wood has no quarrel with the way the governor and General Assembly handled the budget issue, he does question Gov. Wilder’s decision to run for the Presidency. “As I’m travelling the countryside, I’m hearing people saying the governor ought to be home taking care of business,” he said.
