LEESBURG —When spectators park their cars and walk up to the hill to view racing Oct. 12 at Morven Park, the occasion could be truly momentus.
The horses’ order of finish might be more crucial than ever, with people betting on the timber, flat five hurdle races that day.
“Virginia spectators will get a chance to see how it (pari-mutuel wagering) works. People have read so much about it — I’m sure they’re anxious in getting involved in it,” said Charles Colgan, steward’s secretary of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association (NHSA.)
The only other hunt meets that offer pari-mutuel (exclusive of such racetrack meets as Saratoga and Pimlico) are Fair Hill in Maryland and Dueling Grounds in Kentucky.
