The county’s literacy group, LVA Rappahannock, will be one year old on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Since the first meeting of 36 charter members a year ago, the volunteers have been working with adult students in the county in a number of ways.
The annual meeting of members, open to all, will be held in the Rappahannock Courthouse at 10 a.m. on Sept. 28. Those attending will hear a report on the group’s activities during the past year and elect three new directors and three to fill expiring terms.
The highlight of the meeting will be an address by David Smith, principal of Rappahannock Elementary, who will discuss the efforts now under way in the school to help children who are at-risk.
In its first year of existence, LVA Rappahannock has been busy, and it has been growing steadily. A year ago, the group had eight tutors, with four in training, and only two students.
