Two days after Ms. Slaughter was nominated in Culpeper, the Allen campaign issued a challenge to debate, suggesting they schedule two debates, one concerning economic issues and the second on foreign policy topics.
Ms. Slaughter responded later that week saying she wanted only one debate, and did not want the subject matter to be restricted. . .
A pre-law honor society at U.Va. offered to moderate a foreign policy debate, said Del. Allen, but that too proved unacceptable to the Slaughter camp.
