In addition to her own horse, Susan Cooney conditions several flat runners for Rockbum at the farm. On any given weekend, a keen observer or reader of the Daily Racing Form can pick out George Ohrstrom-owned runners carrying the gold and white stripes at many area racetracks.
For husband Pat, flat racing is the less preferred of sports. Jump racing is Patrick Cooney’s job. As contracted rider for Beverly Steinman, he has ridden all but one of Mrs. Steinman’s many starters in more than two years.
Cooney’s contract, subject to renewal each year, requires that he be available in any race with a Steinman runner entered.
