Mr. Wood said he is opposed to the legislature granting any tax increases and he also opposes the General Assembly giving more taxing authority to the counties. Currently there are several taxes which towns and cities can enact by vote of their governing bodies. For example, towns and cities can enact mealsand-lodging taxes and taxes on cigarettes. For counties to enact such taxes, they have to hold referendums. Mr. Wood said rather than allow counties to enact such taxes
