Both young women were amazed at the number of available activities and sports. Still, they are not reluctant to join in. Burnham is trying out for a play while Santacoloma and Menze are on the girls’ basketball team and Kristenen is on the cross country team.

During the Danish school day, which begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m., a class stays in one room with the teachers moving around every 45 minutes. Art, music, gym and science are the only classes held in different rooms. Danish and German students bring their own lunches to school and eat in their classrooms.
